New Delegates, An Upcoming Convention, and More!

Letter From the Chairman

Really want to change our city?

Now that the primary is well behind us, we have turned our attention to the fall election. With so many local positions up for election in November the SFGOP hopes to have lots of Republican choices on the ballot.

The city’s troubles are rooted in no small measure to a lack of ideological diversity. Specifically, the city needs Republican voices.

Have you considered running for office? While Republicans have pulled papers for the mayor’s race and several supervisor races, we think the more Republican candidates the better.

If you’ve thought about running for school board, city college board, supervisor, mayor, or anything else, please reach out to me. I would enjoy meeting you and discussing options.

CAGOP convention

The California Republican Party is holding its spring convention May 17-19 at the Hyatt in Burlingame near the airport.

The convention is infrequently this close to San Francisco. Please join us as we hear from great speakers and plot the Republican course forward in California.

Hope to see you there!

An Update from Your San Francisco Republican Party

By Jacob Spangler
Executive Director, San Francisco Republican Party

During our May Central Committee Meeting, we were pleased to certify new ex officio delegates & welcome them to the party along with the filling of a vacancy in AD-17. Their experience and dedication will be instrumental in advancing our goals and strengthening Republican presence in San Francisco. We are confident that these appointments will further our efforts to promote conservative principles and offer meaningful leadership to our local community.

To conclude the meeting, we took a moment to honor and remember those who have tragically lost their lives under Communism. Their stories serve as a stark reminder of the importance of our freedoms and the principles that we uphold. The SFGOP remains steadfast in its mission to protect and preserve these values, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that our voices are heard and our rights are defended.

Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

We recently celebrated our volunteer core with a dedicated SFGOP Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Organized by our dedicated Vice Chair of Volunteers, Yvette Corkrean, this gathering brought together members, candidates, and leaders to honor and thank our hardworking volunteers whose dedication is vital to the success of the San Francisco Republican Party.
The dinner was graced by the presence of Congressional Candidate Bruce Lou, California State Assembly Candidate Manuel-Noris Barrera, California State Senate Candidate Yvette Corkrean, and San Francisco Board of Supervisor Candidates Oscar Navarro & Jeremiah Boehner, who shared their vision for the future of San Francisco and emphasized the pivotal role our volunteers play in turning this vision into reality. Additionally, we were honored to have CAGOP Bay Area Regional Vice Chair Jason Clark join us, reinforcing the strong support and unity within our Republican community.

The event was a powerful reminder of the incredible impact that volunteers have on the SFGOP. Their tireless efforts help us promote conservative values and support candidates who fight for what we believe in. We are immensely grateful for their commitment, and this dinner was just a small token of that appreciation. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.

City Commissions & Mayoral Authority

By Lisa Remmer
Vice Chair of Political Affairs, San Francisco Republican Party

HELP reduce Unaccountable Governance in San Francisco!

During our April endorsement meeting, the San Francisco Republican Party unanimously voted to endorse the proposed initiative on city commissions and mayoral authority. As this measure is still only a proposed initiative, we agreed to gather signatures to help place this initiative on the November 2024 ballot.

This proposed measure will reduce the city's current 130 commissions to a number between 22 and 65, with all the extraneous commissions dissolved within 16 months. Furthermore, any commissions that the Board of Supervisors reauthorizes or restructures - will have only advisory powers, and no decision-making powers, unless state or federal laws require otherwise. Finally, this measure will transfer decision making authority from each former commission to the head of the department that the commission used to oversee.

If you would like to help gather signatures for this measure, please contact Lisa Remmer at

Remembering the Victims of Communism

By Monika Rothenbuhler
First Vice Chair, San Francisco Republican Party

On May 1, we remember the millions of victims of communism the world over.

Dividing human beings into “classes” and setting them against each other, the Marxist International Socialist Congress declared May 1 to be a day of general strikes, demonstrations, or other activities for the purpose of promoting communism, sometimes in the guise of promoting the concerns of the “proletariat.”

They are devoted to opposing economic freedom and the prosperity that a capitalistic system delivers to all people. With the loss of economic freedom comes the loss of all freedoms - speech, self defense, press, association, self determination, and religion.

“Communism has never concealed the fact that it rejects all absolute concepts of morality. It scoffs at any consideration of "good" and "evil" as indisputable categories. Communism considers morality to be relative, to be a class matter. Depending on circumstances and the political situation, any act, including murder, even the killing of hundreds of thousands, could be good or could be bad. It all depends on class ideology. And who defines this ideology? The whole class cannot get together to pass judgment. A handful of people determine what is good and what is bad. But I must say that in this respect Communism has been most successful. It has infected the whole world with the belief in the relativity of good and evil. Today, many people apart from the Communists are carried away by this idea.”
― Alexander Solzhenitsyn
Warning to the West

May Day is one of the most important holidays in communist countries such as China, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and former Soviet Union countries. Our hearts are with the people there.  We grieve the loss of life, health, freedom and opportunity caused by the embrace of Communism in the world.

“Victims include 200,000 killed during the Red Terror (1918-22); 11 million dead from famine and dekulakization; 700,000 executed during the Great Terror (1937-38); 400,000 more executed between 1929 and 1953; 1.6 million dead during forced population transfers; and a minimum 2.7 million dead in the gulags, labor colonies and special settlements.

To this list should be added nearly a million gulag prisoners released during World War II into Red Army penal battalions, where they faced almost certain death; the partisans and civilians killed in the postwar revolts against Soviet rule in Ukraine and the Baltics; and dying gulag inmates freed so that their deaths would not count in official statistics.

If we add to this list the deaths caused by communist regimes that the Soviet Union created and supported—including those in Eastern Europe, China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia—the total number of victims is closer to 100 million. That makes communism the greatest catastrophe in human history.” – Thomas Hudson
