Highlights & Updates from the SFGOP

Letter from the Chairman

By John Dennis
Chairman, San Francisco Republican Party
With momentum building toward the most consequential mayor’s race in a generation, the San Francisco Chronicle recently published this interesting article:

'The dirty little secret in this town’: GOP voters could decide S.F. mayor’s race'

We think the Chronicle may be on to something.

Consider this: the most iconic symbols of San Francisco – The Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, the cable cars – were built under Republican mayors.

The San Francisco symbols under Democrat mayors, on the other hand, are more notorious than iconic.

In a sane world we should decide the next mayor because when Republicans ran the city, we made this town hum. San Francisco worked.

Today the combined total of registered Republicans (which has grown
dramatically in recent years) and those registered as “independent” represent 33% of city voters.

33% of the city, at the very least, do not wish to be called Democrats.

When we look at what Democrat rule has wrought in San Francisco this is no surprise.

That one-third of the city is effectively with the SFGOP. And that one-third of the city will turn to the SFGOP for who we support in the mayor’s race.

A fascinating time to be a San Franciscan, and to be a San Francisco Republican.

Keep an eye out at sfgop.org to see all of our endorsements, on candidates and ballot measures. Updates will be made in the first week of both August and September.

Reflecting on the Success of the CAGOP Spring '24 Convention

By Jacob Spangler
Executive Director, San Francisco Republican Party

The CAGOP Spring '24 Convention, a cornerstone of California Republican politics, took place from May 17-19 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport in Burlingame. This highly anticipated event marked the return of the convention to the Bay Area for the first time in eight years and brought together party members, leaders, and activists from across the state to discuss our future and strategize for the upcoming election cycle.

The convention featured an array of influential speakers, including the notable Keynote Speaker RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump, who energized and inspired attendees with her insights and strategies to strengthen our efforts. Informative workshops provided valuable knowledge, and the numerous networking opportunities allowed attendees to connect and collaborate on initiatives to bolster our presence and impact.

The San Francisco Republican Party was well-represented, with many of our members actively participating in the event. Our attendance and engagement were pivotal in ensuring that our voices resonated powerfully throughout the convention. The positive interactions and collaborative spirit among our delegates showcased our commitment to advancing Republican values in the Bay Area and beyond.

One of the highlights of the convention was the Bay Area Regional Reception, hosted by CAGOP Bay Area Regional Vice Chair Jason Clark. This reception provided a unique opportunity for attendees to network and discuss regional strategies in a more intimate setting. The event was a resounding success, fostering connections and strengthening our regional coalition.

Overall, the CAGOP Spring '24 Convention was a tremendous success for the San Francisco Republican Party. We left the convention energized and equipped with new ideas and strategies to further our mission. We look forward to applying the insights gained and continuing to make a significant impact in California politics.

Trump v. Biden Debate Watch Party Recap

Republicans from across San Francisco came together for an engaging and spirited Trump v. Biden Debate Watch Party on June 27th at Kezar Pub. The event, held from 6 PM to 8:30 PM, was a significant gathering for the local Republican community, providing an opportunity to watch President Trump confront Biden and discuss the contrasting visions for America's future.

The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and camaraderie. Attendees enjoyed drinks and dinner while engaging in lively discussions about the debate and the political landscape.

Adding to the excitement, candidates for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Jeremiah Boehner and Oscar Flores, were in attendance. Their presence brought a local focus to the event, as they interacted with attendees, shared their platforms, and discussed their visions for the future of San Francisco. Their participation highlighted the importance of local elections and energized supporters to engage more deeply in the political process.

As President Trump highlighted the prosperity, peace, and freedom experienced during his administration, attendees expressed their hopes for a return to those principles. The debate served as a powerful reminder of the stark contrasts between the Trump and Biden years, energizing the attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the Debate Watch Party. Your participation and enthusiasm are crucial as we work together to promote Republican values and make a positive impact in our community.

Stay tuned for more events and opportunities to get involved with the San Francisco Republican Party, and we hope you'll join us again for the next Trump v. Biden Debate on Tuesday, September 10th.

Republicans Join Forces at San Francisco State University

By Monika Rothenbuhler
First Vice Chair, San Francisco Republican Party

Last month, the College Republicans at San Francisco State University organized a voter registration event that brought together Republicans and candidates for office from across the city. Candidates Min Chang (School Board candidate), Ellen Lee Zhou (Mayoral candidate), Stephen Martin Pinto (Board of Supervisors candidate) and Arjun Sodhani (State Assembly candidate) joined members of the College Republicans, Young Republicans, the Briones Society, and members of the SFGOP to get out the vote at SF State.

While we registered multiple San Franciscans to vote, we also were able to promote Republican ideas & values on campus. The event saw several workers on campus approach our table to express their support. Thanks to helpful staff and considerate students, the event was peaceful and encouraging as we expanded our footprint.

This successful event has laid the blueprint for how the SFGOP can work with local organizations to support candidates, get out the vote, and promote Republican values. I'm excited to find out what the future has in store.
